Apple Cheese Crisp


6 c. peeled, sliced cooking apples
1 tbs. water
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
1 c. (4 oz) shredded Cheddar cheese
1 c. all purpose flour
1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
2 tbs. sugar
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 c. butter
Vanilla ice cream
toasted sliced almonds (optional)
Arrange apples in a lightly greased 8" square
baking dish. Combine water and lemon juice;
sprinkle over apples. Top with cheese.
Combine flour and next 4 ingredients;
cut in butter with a fork or pastry blender
until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle over cheese.
Bake at 350F for 40 min. or until tender.
Serve warm topped with ice cream;
sprinkle with almonds, if desired.
Yield: 6-8 servings.
