Baked French Toast


12 slices of day old French bread, 1 1/2" thick
4 eggs
4 c. whole milk
1/3 c. sugar
1 1/2 tbs. grated lemon peel
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbs. sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon

Place bread slices in greased glass baking dishes.
Beat together eggs, milk, 1/3 c. sugar, lemon peel, vanilla and salt.
Pour over bread. Let stand 5 min.
Turn bread. cover and chill for 5 hours or overnight.
Combine 1 tbs. sugar and cinnamon.
Sprinkle over bread. Bake 325F for 40-45 min.
