Governor Dalton's Favorite
Coconut Bars



1 c. flour
1½ c. brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
½ tsp. baking powder
½ c. Angel Flake coconut
½ c. butter
2 eggs
2 tbs. flour
¼ tsp. salt
1 c. chopped pecans

Sift flour before measuring.
Cream butter with ½ c. brown sugar.
Add 1 c. flour.
Mix to crumbly mass.
Pat it evenly into 9x9 well-greased pan.
Bake this pastry until delicately brown at 300°, 20 min. Remove from oven.

Beat eggs until light.
Add 1 c. brown sugar and vanilla.
Mix well.
Add 2 tsp. flour which has been sifted with baking powder and salt.
Add coconut and nuts.
Spread over pastry and bake at 350°, 25 min.
Cool and cut into bars.
