Dewberry Bread and Butter Pickles


1 peck (about 30) 1" diameter cucumbers
10 medium onions
4 tbs. salt
5 c. vinegar
5 c. sugar
2 tsp. celery seed
2 tsp. ground ginger
1 tbs. tumeric
1 box mustard seed

Slice onions and cucumbers, sprinkle with salt
and let stand an hour. Drain.
In a large kettle, mix the remaining ingredients,
add cucumbers, and let mixture come to a boil.
Seal in sterile jars.

New method:
Bring last SIX ingredients to a boil.
Pour, boiling hot, over cucumbers.
Pack into sterile jars leaving 1/8" head space.
Adjust lids, process 10 min in boiling water bath.
Yield: 10 pints.
