In large bowl, combine butter and 1/2 c. sugar;
beat until creamy. Beat in egg yolks.
Add the flour and salt; knead with fingers.
Onto a greased 9x9" baking sheet, evenly pat the batter.

In a 350° oven, bake until lightly browned, 15-20 min.
Remove from oven, spread with jelly.
In a bowl, beat egg whites until stiff.
Fold in remaining 1 c. sugar and nuts.
Gently spread on top of jelly.
At 350°, bake for 25 min. longer.
While still warm, cut into squares.
Makes about 2 doz.
